Summary/Abstract: Contemporary cities and their component parts develop in a thoughtful way, using their potential and possibilities, taking into consideration the principles of sustainable development - economically, ecologically and socially. The aim of the article is to present the concept of smart city and smart port on the example of Hamburg. The solutions applied by the city in the field of using the concept of the Internet of Things can be an inspiration for other urban centers wishing to increase their potential in co-creating global supply chains.
