Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the specificity of services consisting in the purchase of a good not yet existing and the possibility of purchasing it in two forms, as a final product or as a manufacturing process. In the first part author presents various views on the topic of service activities. Next he observes that definitions of service in small degree take into account an important fact that in case of purchasing services the buyer orders a product that has not yet been produced-developed by the executor of the service. Of the many characteristics of service activities author concentrates attention on multiphase process of purchasing in which the subject of purchase can be in form of a final effect or in form of execution-development process as such. Next author makes analysis and compares consequences of purchasing service as a final effect or as purchasing an execution-development process. He concludes that buying service as a definite final effect should oblige the executor to take responsibility for development of the product according the buyers expectations, but when the execution process is purchased, the responsibility might be limited if the effect of service does not meet buyers expectations.
