Bulgaria in the Eurasian ideological context of Nikolai Trubetskoy

Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the manner in which Trubetskoy interpreted the history of Bulgarian language and the relationship between Old Bulgarian language and literary Russian language. The study examines the materials under consideration in the context of Eurasian ideology. The main focus of the article falls upon Trubetskoy’s study on “The common Slavic element in Russian culture”. The observations made by the author lead to the conclusion that the unicalization of the history of Russian language and the hypothesis about the incoherence in the development of Bulgarian language resulted from the imperialist ideological character of Trubetskoy’s philosophical and political ideas.
