Summary/Abstract: Centered on the perception and vision that the two heroes of Cervantes’s novel, Don Quixote and Sancho Panza have about love and woman, and who, moreover, undergo simultaneously a double process, the “sanctification” of Don Quixote and the “quixotification” of Sancho Panza respectively, the present paper displays the illusory perspective about love, whose praiseworthy representative is, undoubtedly, our famous knight errant. Dulcinea, the unique object of the knight’s unflinching adoration, is a purely fictional construction that stands for the total invention within the love story and who, furthermore, underscores the dichotomy, not always so clear-cut, between reality and fantasy. So, Don Quixote, in love not with a flesh and blood woman, but rather with an idealized embodiment of her, steps beyond the boundaries of his time and becomes a reference point for the modern and even postmodern novel, as the erotic fiction is concerned.
