Summary/Abstract: The article shows the potential of folk studies in the 20th century. To develop the ideas expressed by A. A. Korinfsky we discuss several projects. The first project deals with organizing folklore and ethnography conferences for students. An emphasis is laid upon listener’s reflection upon traditional culture, its forms and genres. The article highlights the traditional transfer of ethnic cultural values and ethnic crafts. The second project deals with peasant writers‘ language and texts. Thе article is based upon the novel of a rural writer, I. Vasiliev. It raises the problem of the specifics of the language of the social group – namely peasants – that is both a stylistic device in his novels and the means leading to understanding people’s mentality.
