Summary/Abstract: The article outlines parallels between the notion of the cognitive unconscious, within the framework of Cognitive Science, and the notion of the unconscious in the psychoanalytic theories of Freud and Jung. A respective correlation is being emphasized: between the postulate of the embodied mind (a main tenet in Cognitive Science), or the role of universal sensorimotor experience in the construction of concepts, on the one hand, and some main ideas of the analytical psychology of Jung, on the other. The study highlights the correspondences between symbol and conceptual metaphor and ends with an analysis of sun symbolism in different cultures and corresponding conceptual metaphors.
