Summary/Abstract: Among the social, cultural and political changes triggered at the end of 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries, inline with the beginning of King Carol the 1st’s reign in Romania, several institutions of higher education were established,with strong reverberation both in the epoch and nowadays. Of all these, in Bucharest, the current “Carol I “National DefenseUniversity, founded on 8th of August, 1918 by the Royal Decree, no. 2., in order to train officers for the General Staff and tospread high military knowledge in the army, following the model of the French High School of War, seems to have passedthe test of time.Present within all the political-diplomatic and military actions undertaken by the Romanian Government during theperiod 1914-1919, for the completion of the process of building the Romanian unitary national state, the Romanian Armystrongly supported, with legendary heroism, all these actions, by launching the liberation campaigns, alongside the Entente,the alliance of England, France and Russia, with a special focus on the Superior War School. The article depicts all theseelements from the perspective of archival documents studied.
