Summary/Abstract: Zakopane is the most popular mountain resort in Poland. With reference to The Area Life Cycle proposed by Butler, the author claims that Zakopane have already reached the stagnation phase. The further development requires active intervention. The study indicates the town employed mainly product diversification strategy (provision of diversified forms of leasure attractions, improvement of accomodation, introduction of conference tourism). As the vast number of visitors are day excursionists, the town undertook measures to regulate the car traffic.
