Summary/Abstract: This article focuses on the use of dativus absolutus constructions in the Slavonic translation of Flavius Josephus’ work History of the Jewish War according to Archival Chronograph. The constructions have been classified on both structural and semantic level. The research finds out that there is prevalence of cases where the noun is in preposition with respect to the participle, i.e. the relation (N+P): (P+N) is 35% to 29%. In the syntagms consisting of a pronoun and a participle the prevailing model is the one where the first component is a participle – the relation (participle+pronoun): (pronoun+participle) is 23% to 13%. In the semantic aspect, the constructions express temporality in 79% of the uses. The research supports the thesis that the translation of History of the Jewish War in the Archival Chronographer leads to a lost Old Bulgarian protograph from Tsar Simeon’s Golden Age.
