Summary/Abstract: The article presents Ovidiu Gritta’s biography, with many unknown facts about his life. Born in 1883, Ovidiu Gritta became famous for his presence among the Romanian officers who led, in November-December 1918, the Romanian National Guard of Alba Iulia, known as the “Romanian Legion of Alba Iulia” as well. This military unit had its important role in the organization of the National Assembly for 1st of December 1918 in Alba Iulia, which decided the union of Transylvania with the Kingdom of Romania. Nonetheless, Ovidiu Gritta was very active in his mission, and he was noted by the political structures and the public opinion. At that time, Ovidiu Gritta was named as chief of the Police in Alba Iulia, being the first Romanian who led this structure. Later, starting with 1920, Ovidiu Gritta was sent to lead other police departments in different cities of Romania: Arad, Timișoara, Oradea, Cluj, Chișinău etc. Due to his job that included political police duties, he had to suffer later in his life the persecution of the political extremes from Romania, first the “legionnaires”, secondly - and mostly – the communists. He died in the communist prisons in 1953.
