Summary/Abstract: The main purpose of this scientific paper is to analyze the factors that affect the motivation of teaching and professional staff in state primary and secondary schools in Slovakia. The secondary purpose is to analyze the level of motivation of the teaching and professional staff in state primary and secondary schools, and to investigate if there is any relationship between motivation and job satisfaction. Data was collected by means of a survey questionnaire distributed among teaching and professional staff in state primary and secondary schools. Simple random sampling method was used to collect data from 500 teaching and professional employees. In total, 384 teaching and professional employees responded to the questionnaire, but only 320 questionnaires were considered valid for analysis. Two hypotheses were tested during the research, which were tested by Pearson correlation. The findings have shown, that although the higher career degree means higher financial incentives, it does not contribute to higher motivation level. Employees with higher motivation levels, are more satisfied with their work. Despite the fact that many research studies have been carried out on motivation of public employees worldwide, there are only few articles that has focused solely on the concept of motivation of teaching and professional staff of state primary and secondary schools in Slovakia.
