Summary/Abstract: In the first part of the article, the author discusses the avant-garde strategies of resistance to ideological, political and economic misuse of the arts. Their break with the traditional cultural system was based on a deconstruction of everyday routines, a characteristic feature of what Rüdiger Bubner named aesthetical experience, and Bernhard Waldenfels fault lines of experience. By means of disclosing the close relationships between phenomenological and avant-garde criticism of the apparent banality of daily life, the concept of existential difference was introduced in order to demonstrate the contemporary need for changing and reinventing our basic relation towards life and the world. In the second part of the paper, the difference between banality and banalisation was elaborated within the context of relation between the denial of common sense as the very basis of human community and the reintegration of the arts in the programme of rational subjectivity.
