Summary/Abstract: The management of the public television in our country is frequently reduced to hiring the journalists loyal to the government and firing those who are associated with the political opposition. None of the ruling parties since 1989 has given up this opportunity. The reasons of the political dependence of journalists in TVP and the consequences of their limited of autonomy are the issues discussed in this paper. The author takes the opportunity to ask whether the autonomy of the public media is possible at all. Mechanisms of the political dependence restrict the freedom of speech, which directly strikes the civil society. At the same time we deal with the instrumental treatment of journalists, used to accomplish the political vision of their superiors. Morality of the journalists who agree to create a unilateral, dishonest image of reality is also a subject of discussion. The goal of the article is to point out the mechanisms that lead to the politicization of the public television. It is worth to mention in the first place, that the politicians influence the choice of the management and the journalists so that the news is presented according to the needs of the governing party. The author does not agree with the statement, that the public broadcasting must be politicized and biased. In the conclusions, he proposes the solutions, which could be implemented but require the political maturity and foresight of our elites and the firm support of the democratic society.
