Summary/Abstract: Along with the development of the Internet and the diversification of its range in economic and financial areas of life, non-cash transactions and electronic ones started to grow in importance. In a short time various forms of financing have appeared, for example virtual currency, interchangeably defined as “alternative virtual currency”. Alternative currencies as models and tools in finance can be nowadays qualified and characterised in the range of access economy. They are also professional models which have gained in importance in the Internet age and operate in both, virtual and real space and are no replication of existing before the year 1994 forms of financing. Over the last few years they have become the alternative source of raising capital for various projects and enterprises in relation to conventional financing mechanisms.
