Summary/Abstract: In this paper I write about the sytnactic function and semantics of the dative phrases of Bosnian that have syntactic freedom, which means they differ from the object in dative because they are not in the syntactic domain of the surrounding verbs, adjectives or nouns. These are the dative phrases which are known as dativus ethicus or dativus iudicantis in international linguistics. The analysis shows that these datives have different modal meanings (epistemiological, voluntative) and that they are not a part of the proposition. For this reason they are called adsentential dative phrases.
