Summary/Abstract: On the meaning of initial component ал- in historical personal man’s names in Bulgarian anthroponymy of Turkic origin there are several hypotheses. The article presents another one suggesting that ал- in these names is an epithet meaning great which was used to form the names-titles by the Turks.
