Summary/Abstract: Family firms, representing a significant part of Polish business entities, are an important and interesting research object. The aim of this article is to answer the question how strategy of innovation through tradition and the level of professionalization influence competitiveness of family firms. Using data obtained form 149 respondents employed in Polish family firms the authors confirmed that strategy of innovation through tradition is a statistically significant predictor of competitiveness of the family firms. However, the relationship between the professionalization of the family business and its competitiveness was not confirmed. Finally, theoretical and practical implications as well as limitations and directions for future research were formulated.
