Activities undertaken by companies can relate to the development of an organisation through its activity in the environmental sector and the implementation of appropriate practices in different areas of its business. The aim of this article is to identify factors determining the development of enterprises based on environmental activities. It is also important to point out the motives behind the company’s environmental actions. This will contribute to determining new research areas for ecological entrepreneurship from a microeconomic perspective. The analysis shows that ecological entrepreneurship can be defined as an entrepreneurial, market-oriented activity that addresses environmental issues at the core of the respective business activity and strives to gain a competitive advantage in the marketplace. According to the current trend of socio-economic development, it can be assumed that environmental and ecological issues are growing in importance, and are becoming an area of innovative processes.
