Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to determine the contribution of immigrants from Mexico to the innovation output of the United States as measured by the number of patent applications filed under the international procedure. On the basis of an analysis of patent applications filed in 2008–2012 by American residents under the international procedure, it can be said that in the period under study: (1) immigrants from Mexico were authors of 576 inventions, (2) the total number of inventions they generated on behalf of the United States constituted 0.24% of the total innovation output of this country, (3) Men were authors of 87.48% and women of 12.52% of inventions created by Mexican Americans in the United States, (4) 79.37% inventions created by Mexican Americans in the United States belonged to enterprises, 18.30% to science and 3.33% to entities from other sectors, (5) the most inventions created by Mexican Americans belong to the IPC area C: Chemistry; Metallurgy (31.55%) and the least to D: Textiles; Paper.
