Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to present the preliminary results of pilot studies of the sense of security carried out by the authors on a statistically significant sample of residents of local communities in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship. The analysis of statistical material was preceded by the proposition of a significant extension of the “security of local communities” category to various areas contributing to quality of man’s life. Assuming that the security of local communities is a multidisciplinary category, its extended characteristics and definition have been presented. Research questions to which the article’s authors responded, referred to, inter alia, how respondents assess the sense of security in their local environment and what they consider to be main threats. How they assessed the essential elements of the local security system, and what factors determine the local community’s sense.
