Summary/Abstract: The article refers to the issue of flood protection in Poland in 2007–2016 and the current level of flood risk in the country. The most important definitions (flood, flood protection) and the largest floods (1813, 1997, 2010) that affected Poland were quoted. The subject of flood protection programs was discussed (Program for the Oder 2006, The Upper Vistula River Basin Flood Protection Program, Odra-Vistula Flood Management Project), in terms of their implementation and financing methods. The location of retention reservoirs with a total capacity at maximum damming above 90 [hm3] has been indicated. The flood risk assessment was carried out (RCB method), which indicated that a high flood risk occurs in the voivodships of southern, western and northern Poland. A small risk occurs in voivodships in the area with a small number of watercourses (Świętokrzyskie, Lublin).
