Summary/Abstract: The objective of the paper is to discuss three approaches to communication analysis in family firms: 1) the ratio of context versus register in communication patterns study, 2) the role-based approach to communication studies in family firms and 3) the role of collaborative communication as trust building tool. Review of subject literature and several interviews and discussions with owners and family members working in family environment conducted within the EU FAME project realisation led to the conclusion, that more attention should be devoted to the analysis of discourse, narratives and dialogues occurring among family firm employees and more training programmes should be developed to help family firm employees to overcome communication problems.
