Summary/Abstract: The objective of this paper is to examine how Polish family owned enterprises perceive the complexity of the environment in the context of building relationships with their stakeholders in projects they manage. The results indicate that the studied Polish family businesses which at the time of the survey managed projects perceived the complexity of the environment as of higher significance compared to those entities which did not employ project management practices. However, in the first group the factors related to family involvement did not have such an influence on project managing practices and building relationships with stakeholders as they had in the companies which did not manage projects. The findings pay attention to an interesting phenomenon that the factor of family involvement might be ‘turned off’ or weakened in the situation when the company employs professional standards or good practices in the area of project management. These results also urge owners and managers of Polish family enterprises to pay attention to the role of the complexity of the environment in building relationships with their stakeholders.
