Summary/Abstract: The objective of this work is to analyze and define leadership theories that identify a family business facing problems of competition and economic and political forces that have led the leader to make decisions to incorporate the traditional fishing and tourism activity to organizational change, which support them in subsistence and local development. The methodology is a case study with techniques of bibliographic analysis of leadership theories, data collection through interviews. The results argue that a transformational leadership with assertiveness leads a family company to subsist on a necessary organizational change, in accordance with the actions carried out by local and state governments that have the purpose of modernizing and presenting the population with an alternative to leisure. In conclusion, we identify that leadership theories give us tools to understand the behavior of a leader when making decisions that directly affect the family business, to solve the changes that occur in it.
