Summary/Abstract: Small family enterprises play an important role in the economy of Poland and the European Union. In their functioning they are closely related to the local environment and constitute one of the key links in regional development. An important element supporting their development and competitiveness may be aid programs whose effects depend to a large extent on good relations between public administration and entrepreneurs, bringing synergy effects for both parties. The aim of the article is to identity the reasons that, in the opinions of entrepreneurs running small family businesses, determine their relations with public administration and affect the reduction or lack of synergy effect resulting from cooperation.
