Summary/Abstract: The article aims at giving an idea on how the Old Testament compilation known in the Byzantine juridical literature as Νόμος Μοσαϊκός (Nomos Mosaïcos), or Moses’ Law (Laws), lives as lexical data base in its Slavonic translation, and in what it differs from the other Slavonic translations of the Old Testament’s books with liturgical and non-liturgical (individual reading) purposes. The analysis is focused on the first recorded Ilovica’s copy from 1262 of the St. Sava’s Zakonopravilo (Legal Code), famous as well as of being the Southern-Slavonic Krmčija with interpretations. The lexical analysis proves three main tendencies: undoubted connection with the Byzantine prototype that has been followed, but not mechanically; knowledge and partly sticking to the previous Slavonic Biblical tradition; independent and recognizable translator’s manner that characterizes the overall Zakonopravilo. On the other hand, the dating of the given Slavonic translation and its preservation in a copy one century earlier to the known Slavonic translations of the Pentateuch requires Nomos Mosaïcos to be taken into account as a reliable source for studying both Biblical and juridical aspects of the Old Testament in the overall Slavonic written tradition.
