Summary/Abstract: According to the United Nations Organization the world consists of 195 countries and 57 autonomous and dependent territories. In terms of the level of socio-economic development, natural resources possessed, human potential, religious beliefs, cultural and moral values etc., it is a diverse group. This study is devoted to the problems of segmentation of the world into homogeneous groups of economies with similar socio-economic characteristics. In accomplishing this goal, the author used the synthetic index of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita. Therefore, he divided the world into two sets, i.e. developed and developing. The latter one was divided into four groups: newly-industrialized, oil-based, survival-oriented and other. The study can be successfully used in the field of lectures on international marketing, economics and international relations.
