Summary/Abstract: The article presents the formation, labour market processes and changes in the social composition of peripheral areas in Hungary from the 1960s, then the labour market difficulties of the people living in these types of areas are demonstrated by a research conducted in an internal peripheral village.The aim of the research is to examine the factors that have the most impact on the employment opportunities and labour market integration of the people living in peripheral areas, and to show the territorial and economic disadvantages of these kind of areas in the labour market by taking the example of the village of Tiszabő found in an internal peripheral area of Central Tisza Region.The results illustrate the differences between villagers based on their ties to the labour market, and the effects of spatial isolation, social capital and territorial stigma. The paper also presents the composition of the incomes of local households, most of which derive from the public work programme.
