Main Trends in Changes of Environmental Quality in Hungary

Summary/Abstract: The authors analyse the Hungarian trends in changes of the state of the environment using selected, internationally comparable indicators. The study describes significant reduction of air pollutants’ emis-sions, trends of air quality, noise pressure, and changes in connection with water resources, water quality, sewage treatment, waste and materials management. The authors give an overview of some environmental policy instruments such as environmental expenditure, eco-industry and environmental taxation. Some environmental trends are explored in comparison with the European Union average.
