Summary/Abstract: There are many barriers limiting women’s access to employment in senior managerial positions. That is why the European Union, striving to balance the authorities of public companies, postulates the introduction of so-called quotas, i.e. the minimum number of women in management bodies. Following the EU directive, some member states require companies to have 20–30% of women in their management. The diversity in managerial bodies and its impact on the financial performance of companies are widely discussed both in science and politics. However, there is still a lack of clear resolution of this issue, and therefore also the issue of desirability of the legal coercion of implementing quotas still open. The aim of this research is (1) to analyse the gender diversity in management bodies of listed companies in Poland and (2) to verify the existance of relationship between the share of women in company management and the financial performance of these companies. The situation of the companies was determined applying taxonomic measures, developed for 15 economic sectors selected by the WSE in the years 2010–2013. As a result, the lack of gender parity in the authorities of Polish listed companies was found – the participation of women is small, significantly differs from the postulated and without significant legislative actions will not be achieved in the rational future. There was no positive correlation between the share of women in the authorities (measured by the percentage of women in collegial bodies and among presidents of management boards and chairmen of supervisory boards, etc.) and financial performance of companies listed on WSE.
