Innovation Potential of the Podlaskie Voivodeship

Summary/Abstract: Strengthening the innovative capacity of regions is an important element of the Community policy, and thus a challenge for Polish regional policy. The task of regional authorities is therefore undertaking actions offering various forms of support that improve the competitiveness of enterprises in the region. The EU Structural Funds are of great importance for their implementation. Enterprises can use these funds to create innovations and bring them to the market. This is particularly important for less developed regions, including the Podlaskie Voivodeship. In comparison with other regions, there is a poorly developed infrastructure, and key industries are not very innovative. Therefore, the low innovative potential of this region requires effective actions that will increase its competitiveness and accelerate its development. One of them is Entrepreneurship development plan based on smart specializations of the Podlaskie Voivodeship for the years 2015-2020+ (RIS3), which aims to increase the number of enterprises in the region and their innovative activity.
