Summary/Abstract: The article presents air and climate protection as an area of investment activity of local governments and the area of ecological security. The subject of interest in this case is the north-western Małopolska voivodeship, especially local governments located in poviats Cracov, Chrzanów and Olkusz. This area is particularly exposed to the transport of gaseous and particulate pollutants from the Silesia region, as well as producing quite a few substances in connection with the industry located here. The aim of the article is to present investment policy of local governments being the subject of the study in the field of air and climate protection. It analyzes the progress in the implementation of local policies aimed at reducing harmful emissions of suspended dust and gases from industrial installations as well as households. It also indicates local leaders in this area and entities that have not shown any significant activity on this issue so far or it was insufficient. The main thesis of work is that actions undertaken by local governments of north-west Małopolska voivodeship in the field of air and climate protection in many cases proved to be late and insufficient. Only selected units, where the problem of combating smog or dust pollution has long been noticed and recognized by local governments as a highly detrimental factor for their daily lives and further economic development. The methods used of the article is analysis of reporting documents and financial data available for these local unites in the Local Data Bank. The results of the analyzes made it possible to make final conclusions and suggest proposals for modifying the actions of local authorities on the subject of investment in air and climate protection.
