Summary/Abstract: The accession to the EU gives the Baltic states new economic perspectives, particularly in commodity exchange. Despite these big changes, Russia still remains an important trading partner. In the spring of 2014, the EU and other western countries applied economic sanctions against Russia as a result of the annexation of the Crimea and the destabilization of Ukraine. In August, the Russian government adopted retaliatory sanctions against the EU food embargo on the Russian Federation. The aim of this article is to analyze the changes in the commodity exchange of the Baltic countries during the EU sanctions and embargo of Russia. The subject of the study was the change of exports and imports of the Baltic countries according to the CN classification on a two-digit level. The article uses a comparative analysis to examine changes in the commodity exchange of the Baltic States in the period before and after the introduction of the sanctions – the study covers the years 2010-2016. As a result of the research, it was found that changes in the commodity exchange of the Baltic States concerned both the structure and the target countries.
