Summary/Abstract: The paper examines the connectivity between leadership and ethnic militias in Nigeria. The work was undertaken based on the frequent political crisis and utterances from various ethnic militia groups. The study observed that the unpatriotic act by politicians has led to collapse of social infrastructures, insecurity, political corruption and ethnic based polity. The consequence is that every aspect of the nation’s development is affected. The study therefore argues that the struggle for leadership can find an answer in unfairness and inequity in the sharing of the nation’s resources. The work also discovered that the emergence of ethnic militias is a result of the fear of iniquitous distribution of the fruits of development. The work suggests that there is need to pursue a policy of restructuring to correct the unjust federalism, in order to strengthen the political institutions of the country.
