Summary/Abstract: Innovation of the EU is still low in comparison to other economies, i.e. due to the insufficient involvement of the business sector in the creation of innovation. The experience of other countries, such as the United States, where companies effectively carry out the process of creation, diffusion and use of knowledge, should be used. The objective of the article is to present the national innovation system in the United States as well as the implemented policy which aims at raising innovation of companies. It is said that the high innovative potential of enterprises in this country is determined by the well-functioning innovation system, in which instruments and programmes play an important role in support of these entities, also in the scope of commercialisation of innovations. Research methods used in the article: descriptive analysis, descriptive statistics.
