Summary/Abstract: A school is a place where a lot of misunderstandings, disputes and conflicts occur between students, that are often solved with aggression and physical violence. One of the tools that may be of help in solving of problems of that type is peer mediation. During such a mediation, an impartial and neutral mediator, being a properly trained student, helps his school friends to reach a mutually beneficial agreement. Peer mediation becomes a chance to quit solving problems in a controversial way based on competition and only one party winning, and replacing it with a dialogue and cooperation of both parties searching for a solution being a win-win situation. Such an approach to solving conflicts is a practical training in communicative skills and group cooperation, based on creativeness of young people looking for peaceful problem solving. They learn to take responsibility for what they do. With that approach they show respect for another man and are open to his needs. The cooperation and dialogue oriented education started at school is at the same time a chance to solve also out-of-school conflicts constructively.
