Summary/Abstract: The article, basing on the Russia’s reception of the works of Benjamin Franklin and August Ludwig von Schlözer, presents the process of intercultural transfer of ideas, myths and concepts from the Western world to Russia. The popularity of Franklin’s works, which were presented in private libraries in the original language and trans¬lated by the exiled poets and Decembrists and inspired Russian writers with their figure of a bourgeois follower of the “code of honour”, were proof of the vitality of the Western ideas in Russia. Schlözer’s scientific accomplishments also turned out to be inspirational, although they haven’t received as unanimously enthusiastic reviews of Russian intellectuals; they contributed, however, to establishing the foundations of the 19th-century historiography and research on Russian chronicles. The popu¬larity of the authors became also a significant factor leading towards establishing and developing relations of scientific and cultural character between Russia and the United States and Germany
