Collections of Museums of Modern and Contemporary Art and the Problem of Memory Policy

Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses the problem of the policy of remembrance in the context of modern and contemporary art museums. The main focus of the research includes the collections which each museum institution gathers and displays as part of their basic activity. The shape of the collected works of arts is influenced by the collection policy of a given institution. Not only does such a policy determine the profile of the collection, but it also defines the research area in which the museum’s narrative is constructed. The aim of this thesis is to monitor, based on the art collections of the above-mentioned institutions, the dependence between the museum’s discourse and the policy of remembrance.
