Summary/Abstract: In December 1956 the Bucharest-based Teatrul Evreiesc de Stat celebrated the 80th anniversary of the birth of Yiddish theater. For the occasion, a bilingual memory book was published with the title Optzeci de ani de teatru evreiesc în Romînia 1876–1956 / Akhtsik yor yidish teater in Rumenye 1876–1956. The paper examines how this memory book reflects the relation of Romanian Yiddish theater’s actors to Yiddish theater history and to the cultural politics of the People’s Republic of Romanian in the 1950s.
