Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to identify major demand-supply, technological as well as geopolitical trends in the oil and gas market. It is argued that the current relatively low oil prices, together with demand trends and the policy of energy transformation, will have long-term geostrategic implications for both exporters and importers of hydrocarbons. To verify this hypothesis, the author focuses first on an analysis of the petro-states’ export policies as a response to current supply-demand and technological trends. In this respect, the OPEC’s approach is discussed as well as Russia’s perspective and its current energy geopolitics. Secondly, the article describes energy transformation policies of importers such as China and the EU. It provides an analysis of the co-relations between these two areas of importers’ and exporters’ energy policies and their consequences for global and regional energy markets.
