Summary/Abstract: Between all the Romanian provinces that have manifested their desire for national unity in 1918, Banat, because of its diverse ethnical composition, had a special destiny. Being revendicated by two states, namely the Serbian and the Romanian one, the space between Danube, Tisa and Mureş, known usually as the historical Banat, up to an international decision, has been occupied by foreign armies. This occupation allowed different forms of manifestation of authorities, Romanian Orthodox Church being the most prominent institution that supported at the local and national level the Romanian interests on Banat.
