Summary/Abstract: Museums are places were objects of material culture, religion and historical importance, are preserved and presented to the public for the purpose of education and enlightenment. Museums have a long history going back to the 3rd century B.C., when the first known museum was opened in the University of Alexandria in Egypt. Over the years, museums spread to every part of the world and today it has become rare to find any community or society that does not have a museum. This makes the concept of museum universal and its enormous importance to the society can’t be over emphasized. One of the historic museums in northern Nigeria is the Kanta Museum, which serves a historical ware house for Kabawa people of Kebbi Kingdom. This paper is therefore an assessment of the significance of the museum to the society and Nigeria at large.
