Summary/Abstract: The Serbian state is today a member of the Partnership for Peace and has stepped on the road of further Euro- Atlantic integration. The issue of its membership in NATO is still outstanding. That matter is also closely connected with the country’s relations with the USA. Numerous debates unfolding of late in the professional as well as general public revolve around two confronted positions, based on the view that, historically speaking, close relations with the USA and NATO do not exist and a diametrically opposed stand that during the 1950s Yugoslavia was for all intents and purposes a NATO member. This article shall offer clear and well documented facts attempting to prove that neither of these two positions is entirely correct. We shall here analyse the events related to the Yugoslav state relations with the USA and NATO in the 1950-1955 period.
