Summary/Abstract: Haska discusses the moment when the narrative about being a witness of the Holocaust emerged. She analyses accounts collected by the Central Jewish Historical Commission in the years 1944-1947, currently kept at the archive of the Jewish Historical Institute under number 301. This collection clearly shows that the testimony was treated as a legal narrative, as a witness account that could be used to accuse perpetrators. The article discusses the different dimensions of the testimony, such as the question of being an eyewitness and the way the protocol-maker, who is also a witness, establishes credibility. The minute secretary is also called upon to testify – both in a metaphorical as well as legal sense.
