Summary/Abstract: The aim of the present work is to consider the articulation between dream and re- ality in the surrealist and phantasmagoric stories of Marcel Béalu. The process of representation, in the literary works of Marcel Béalu, is illustrative of a decon- struction of oppositions that reflects its problematic nature through the use of fantastic motifs, bold metaphors and neologisms. This poetic practice explores the border between reality and dream and, by doing so, induces a dynamics of trans- formation and deformation that textually dramatizes the narrator’s psyche, through an accumulation of inexplicable scenes, symbolic places, allegorical figures, tempo- ral paradoxes and narrative distortions. The combination between realist represen- tation and fanciful imagery creates a form of dreamlike mimesis, with fantastic and miraculous elements. The transgression of boundaries can be here considered a tool for conveying meaning, and a way of expressing the complex mechanisms of psychological life and dream activity through poetical language.
