Summary/Abstract: Grochowski discusses why, how and in what contexts peasant identity has recently met with interest in different circles of contemporary culture such as literature, art and the humanities. He juxtaposes current approaches with traditional studies that drew on folklorization and stigmatization. The shared feature he identifies in more recent engagements with peasant identity is the attempt critically to revise established narratives in the context of current theoretical debates.
