Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the first collection of literary fairy tales on the European scene as a continuationof the novelistic tradition to generate a narrative situation in which to tell the stories. The first fairy tales appeared in a collection of novellas, but the real affirmation of the fairy tale as a literary genre occurs when a framed story is a fairy tale. The transition from novella to fairy tale is dictated by the changed literary taste and some common genre features.
