Summary/Abstract: This article aims at presenting research outcomes on communicative competence of students in selected social situations – verbal aggression, conversation with the representative of the opposite sex, discussion among strangers, public speech and presentation in the form of recorded audio. The study was conducted among students from Warsaw University and Jagiellonian University. In both cases the goal was to investigate students’ self-assessment of the communicative competence and the motivation to communicate in different situations. The study was conducted through PAPI and CAWI methods in the period of 2015–2016
