Summary/Abstract: In August 2009, the Jordanian government approved a law whereby women have the right, like men, to move freely, without being accompanied, and to choose their place of residence. These measures have enraged the religious leaders in the country who have accused Amman of destroying the family and breaking traditional values because, in their opinion, the woman's place is at home near her husband or family members.
