Summary/Abstract: Wars can be of different types and can have various reasons – either to build up kingdoms and empires, in the past centuries, to protect commercial routes or to own raw materials. More recently, the European wars started as nationalist conflicts but proved to have a racial hidden motive. The vaguer, more arcane, longer a war proves to be, the more difficult is to understand its stakes. How can therefore the present “war” in Iraq be defined? Is it a religious one? Is it a war for oil? Or for the defense of Israel? Is it a clash of civilizations? Or is it an attempt to prevent the expansion of the new Islamic totalitarianism? Such questions are analyzed in the present text that also offers answers and pertinent perspectives.
